Sometimes we need to take time out to reflect on what is important in our lives. An exercise I have found to be very effective in achieving this is to complete a list of 100 goals. I first heard of this through Keith Abraham of Passionate People.
For some, this exercise may take just a couple of hours, however, most people find that it can take longer than this. Often people may get to 50 or 60 then come back to it after a couple of days reflection. I personally found the first 80 relatively easy to identify. It was the last 20 which made me dig deep and really think hard about what I wanted to achieve over the coming years and what was really important to me.
Completing this exercise can also provide insight to what you regard as important in your life . You may find that there is an imbalance in what you wish to achieve and you may decide to reprioritise your goals as a result of completing this exercise.
Once you have completed your list, separate your goals into groups. The first group being the goals you plan to achieve over the coming 6 months. The second group being those you plan on achieving over the following 1-2 years and the third group being those which you plan to focus on once the other goals have been achieved. Some of these goals may be included in your first list but carry on for many years; eg , "To build a blog on your website".
