A couple of weeks back I spent some time in sunny Nelson, a smaller city situated in the Tasman District at the top of the South Island of New Zealand.
Nelson is well known for it's popularity with artists and other creative entrepreneurs who love the lifestyle this area has to offer.
On the Saturday morning I visited the local market and meandered slowly through the lanes between the numerous stalls, stopping to check out much of the crafts and art work on offer. It was great to see the locals and visitors to the area out in great numbers this day to support these local entrepreneurs.
Stall holders included a range of artists each offering an individual style of art, carvers of jade, whale bone and stone. Jewellers offered a range of products uniquely handcrafted with different materials. Then there were the steel artists who crafted interesting objects or art pieces using their imagination, great welding and fabrication skills and often with materials that had probably been recovered from someone's farm yard or the local council tip. As well as these, there were also the beautifully made clothing stalls using a range of fabrics and materials.
It was refreshing to see so many creative entrepreneurs in the one spot, all working on creating the lifestyle they have chosen whilst working at something that fuelled their passion.
Hope you enjoy
